After working with Meg for about 3 weeks on wild flushing pigeons/chasing, blank gun, walking afield, and obedience, I thought she might point her first bird by scent and honor a dog at the first opportunity. This all is a little rough and not how my training sessions typically work but anyway wanted to catch the moment. In this video, I am trying to work Meg on the checkcord into a bird in a launcher, video with camera, operate the auto backing dog, and flush the birds remotely. A few too many things in my hands at the same time but you get the idea. Thought this was worth capturing forever and I was right. Meg scent pointed her first bird and I promptly turned the opposite direction so that she wouldn't scent the bird near the backing dog and she stuck the back instantly at the sight of the backing dog on point. These are the kind of dogs that make my job a little easier. Jim Gourley - 785-249-4316 - www.setterdogs.com - jim@setterdogs.com

  • Paul's got a couple nice dogs now that are doing well in the AFTCA trial circuit. One of his dogs made a couple of spectacular casts at the trial in Santa Fe last fall. I think he won or took second in the Shooting Dog there. If I wasn't running Pointers I'd get one of his Setters. Beautiful motion, biddable dogs. Nice breeding program.
