Meleager records this role in a poem preserved in the Greek Anthology: "a woman, hurls the fire that maddens men for women; but Eros Protogonus himself sways the passion for males." (Mousa Paidiké, 86). Eros the Younger (Cupid) was born of Aphrodite and Ares and was not the same god as Phanes Eros Protogonus, the Creator, the Giver of Live, the God of Love Between Men.
