To the eye, Hidden Paradise in the city of Bacolod, Philippines is starkly different from other neighborhoods nearby. It's a community of former squatters with tidy homes and clean, dry streets, a safe drinking water supply, and healthy children. Community leaders reveal how they transformed a slum into a hidden paradise.

Sampled water from 30% of groundwater wells from the Philippines have nitrate levels above the World Health Organisation's safety limit. Contamination is greatest in areas that used large quantities of nitrogen fertilisers. Communities think that the water they drink every day is clean because physically, it doesn't smell bad or look bad. But it is actually laced with nitrates from fertilisers which people don't normally associate with pollution.
