Naama Shafir scored a career-high 40 points in leading the University of Toledo Rockets to its first national title, a 76-68 victory in the WNIT championship game over Southern Cal Saturday at Savage Arena.

Shafir carried the 29-8 Rockets with a 28-point outburst in the second half to earn her all-Women's National Invitational Tournament Most Valuable Player recognition.

Toledo, which hosted all six of its tournament games at Savage Arena, becomes the first Mid-American Conference women's basketball team to win a national championship.

The Rockets finished the season by winning their final 18 home games at Savage Arena, which drew a record crowd of 7,301.
