Short film documenting the 17th Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship, an annual event held in Carrbridge, a small village in the heart of the Highlands.
The 2010 championship, sponsored by oatmeal producers, Hamlyns of Scotland, attracted a strong line up of competitors comprising professional chefs and porridge making enthusiasts from across Scotland, Manchester, London and the South West of England along with international competitors from Canada, the USA and Sweden.
Among the contenders were the 2009 winner Matthew Cox from Bob's Red Mill, Portland USA who had returned to Scotland to defend his title and last year's speciality winner, Anna Louise Batchelor who bowled over the judges with her Spotted Dick Porridge Pudding.
The list of competitors also included Canadian cookery and foodie writer, Catherine Caldwell, Pia Redin from Sweden, winner of the first Nordic Oatmeal Cooking Competition, Patrick Potter of oatmeal giants Real Foods USA and local man Ian Bishop from the Slochd, Carrbridge who was crowned the world's best porridge maker in 2008.
The championship started with a pipe band parade of competitors and officials followed by the traditional Toast to the Porridge.
Judges George McIvor and Colin Bussey from the Master Chefs of Great Britain and guest judge for 2010, Herald columnist and best selling author, Tom Shields.
Associated activities during the day included the Taste of the Cairngorms showcase of local produce as part of the wider celebration of Scotland's reputation as a Land of Food & Drink, beer and whisky tasting, foodie art workshops and the Carrbridge Forest Run.
