I miss how the country was back when this was on TV and we had family classic on Sunday when everyone stayed home together and had dinner together. Maybe someday :)

Oh my thank you so much. I've collected so much music from The Andy Griffith show and converted it to Mp3 to put on my Ipod. This was my missing gem and now I've found it!!!! I so loved Ellie. To bad she left the show. Everyone knows in their heart of hearts she was Andy's true love.

This is waht CHRISTmas is about!

It's all about Love... you knuckleheads.

The best television show ever created. THIS is America.

times have always been changing and they always will change no matter what--that's the way of progress--but progress or no, I intend to raise children watching this episode of this awesome tv show once a year because it's purely beautiful and reflects our heritage (i'm from TN) in a wonderful light. On a side note Andy's harmonization in this is heaven itself.

@Teflon65 "current multicultural society"? How can anything resonate with that? What is really being said is that since we're too divided to have one universal culture, yet too progressive to universally have separate cultures, we should meet in the middle by abolishing culture entirely. Lest we offend someone, or leave someone out... Away in a Manger would be re-written to say "Away In a Car Seat, the gender-neutral middle-class child was buckled in...".

@easongt It is amazing seeing your comment, because I also watch this episode of the Andy Griffith Show and "It's a Wonderful Life" ritualistically every Christmas. Something about them have a way of reminding me of that simple, wholesome spirit of kindness and goodness which the toils of life sometimes obscures from view. Nevertheless, if you look in the right places and stay true to yourself, I am confident that you can still find that "Mayberry" experience of community and good character.

People complain all the time that TV stinks now...but they continue to watch. They complain family values have deteriorated, but they still send their kids to daycare and/or over involve them in extra curriculiar activities. They claim pleople are rude, but go online and make horrible comments to others. You want "Mayberry"? Then you and your family take the stand to live as Andy and family did. BE a family. One at a time. If we would all take the stand, things would improve.

If only all 365 days of the year could be Christmas day. There would be eternal peace, love, and so much friendship that the world wouldn't stand for even so much as a rude comment. Love Andy Griffith.

The writing helped make this episode. A lot of people complain that we don't have shows like this anymore, and I think that's because the writing for TV series has slipped. I believe good writers could make something like this, which would resonate with our current multicultural society. Not to put this episode down though, because it's a true classic.
This is outright beautiful!

Thanks for all the comments! It's always been one of my favorite episodes and a must see at Christmas along with "It's a Wonderful Life". My two sons and I watch it every year. Guess I'll leave this up all year. Never thought it would get this big a response. Thanks again - J (Strange-Trip)
