On August 8, Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. Shreveport's mayor and other leaders announced they will head to Detroit on August 15 to meet with General Motors Corp. and discuss saving local jobs.

The leaders are expected to meet and talk with GM's president and the head of manufacturing of North America.

Jindal claims their goal is to provide a clear message that the Louisiana is willing to be a partner to put people back to work in the state.

The trip comes after an announcement that GM Shreveport has plans of terminating its entire second shift at the end of September. Such actions will result in at least 700 job losses from GM and hundreds more from supply companies.
