The point about bus priority measures is to bring about a paradigm shift in how we travel in Christchurch - that just because you have a car and can afford the fuel to put in it, you don't necessarily have the right to use it anytime you like. I would agree that the lanes are very badly engineered, and I actually think congestion charging at 20 cents per 100 metres would have been a better alternative, and would have provided funding for public transport improvements as well.
