I love horror movies and really liked the atmosphere of "Silent Hill", yet I decided to make a video that doesn't include the typical scary parts.

The one thing that lingered with me after watching the movie was the (admittedly barely existent) story arch about the couple.
The fact that they were in the same place at the same time, and yet unable to reach out to each other haunted me more than the monsters did...

Enjoy the video, and please leave a comment letting me know why you did or didn't like it. That way you will either make me very happy (I love reading comments), or help me improve my editing skills. :o)

Music: Snow Patrol - Make this go on forever

Cast:
Radha Mitchell (Finding Neverland, Phone Booth)
Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, National Treasure)
Jodelle Ferland (Tideland, Kingdom Hospital)

  • Movie could have been A LOT better. Die Hard Silent Hill fans will never be satisfied with a perfect movie adapt from video game, much like the Resident Evil movies (with the exception of the first and sequal) Other than that, Silent Hill is a movie that is OSCAR worthy outside of the video game WORLD story wise

  • I think it's a similar problem with video games as it is with books - when they're adapted for the big screen they're just bound to be disappointing to most people who are familiar with the original.

You create so many images in your head while reading or feel a certain way while playing a game - and that's something that can't possibly be captured on film.

I'm probably one of the few people who have never played SH prior to (and even after) watching this movie. Maybe that's why I enjoyed it.

  • Man, that is one nice house.

I didn't really like the movie... I though the end was really sad, but I believe that at the VERY end that we don't get to see, they find each other again. They connect somehow (like that other movie..."White Noise"?) I don't know, but a movie kinda like that. Yeah, guess I'm naive, but I don't care.

Nice video, I guess. Maybe a little slow. (Sorry! I don't want to be rude...)

  • Siliven, you're not being rude at all, I appreciate the honest feedback. :o)

  • Just amazing!! Thanx for ur work!!

  • Wow, I've never played/watched SH but this amv is damn moving, perfect atmosphere and right amount of emotion. Very well done.

  • Hopefully, you've played the game since you made this clip. It is MORE than worth while! I'm a fan of both the movie and the games. I even like to read SH Fan fiction. You would love it if you love the atmosphere!

  • Monsters are great, especially creepy hot nurses, but in the end you're gonna remember that surprisingly bitter feeling at the end, I'm glad that someone pointed that up. :)

  • @SkyAboveWater Well spoken! In my opinion, it was a fine adaptation of the series. Being a fan of Silent Hill 1-3, I understand that the monsters are interpreted differently based on each of the main protagonist's psychological profile or current emotions. For example, James' feelings of castration and helplessness is portrayed with the straightjacket-monsters. But in film it is difficult to portray that in a way people will understand. You have to take the movie fans into consideration as well.

  • "The fact that they were in the same place at the same time, and yet unable to reach out to each other haunted me more than the monsters did..."

    Same here.

Goodness, you get part of the essence of this film.

  • @AAORoLLEmUp What I think some of the problem was, was the ridiculous and un-realistic goren and the acting. Some actors were good for theirs parts, but others were defiantly not. They also didn't truly develop some of the characters enough for you to care for them.

  • I loved your vid. Matter of fact I saw it a few months ago, then just spent two hours searching for it today after remembering.

    Brilliant, beautiful, fantastic.
