One more thing: did bad guys from Microsoft participate? Is is free from patents?

we will file the patent to defend potential patent trolls and we will do our best to integrate it into GIMP core so that everyone can enjoy it.
Interestingly, the Microsoft Research guy in the author list is the one that push me most to share the code with the whole community ASAP :D

My current prototype is indeed based on GIMP. However, I have tried my best to cleanly separate three major components: image editing software (GIMP), revision control system, and renderer (GTK+). I will release the source code soon, please stay tune :D

This is pretty awesome. I'm currently learning about git, and I was curious about similar systems geared for images. this was the only post I could find. I hope the ideas here can be abstracted out for other programs, such as paint.net, or Photoshop. keep up the great work!

well the bad guys are mostly in Microsoft legal department and maybe in the board of directors, though Steve Balmer is not THAT bad.

Haha, maybe Microsoft dudes from far East (am I right?) are less evil than from America. :D
But regarding patent: GIMP is written according to GPLv2 license. Will its creators agree to merge code that is protected by a patent?
And what is more important: patent law isn’t applied in the whole world. USA, Germany(?), Korea to name a few.
Anyway, I wish you luck! It is great to see the power of Free Software. :)

Is this tightly coupled to GIMP?
