(April, 2006) 4 1/2 years ago, I had to bring down my 100 year old Red Oak tree near my house because it was becoming an insurance liability the way it was growing; if it fell, it would have gone through not only my house, but the house next door and even damaged the house next to it because of how close they are to each other and the height of the tree (estimated to be 70-80 feet tall)..
The one section was taken out during Hurricane Hugo back on September 22, 1989 and the other section continued to grow and was starting to lean, so down it came..
I did have a problem with the idiot supervisor coping an attitude with me (not around when filming) with regards to trying to get my umbrella repaired/replaced due to that limb hitting it (shown) because it took some 2 months to finally get fixed, but other than that the Arborists did a great job!
Anyway, After letting the wood dry out all summer, I used a hydraulic log splitter in the Fall later that year to split it all up into firewood (not shown - See the attached video below) - which I am Still burning up in my outdoor fireplace!

  • Wow what a nice tree. Looked healthy from clip but guess it needed to go. 100 years old goes back to turn of century.

  • @gwdurham Yeah the liability of it the way it was leaning was too great a risk and pruning it would not have been enough.. Really Hated to do it. :(

  • That was pretty epic, as far as tree removal goes. And firewood for life, pretty much.

  • @localcrew Thanks! You are correct! I still have a hefty pile of wood to this day! LOL!

  • guys good job to all and I hope to see more work.. It sad to see a old freind go but the lean of the tree was too much..

  • RIP

  • @parsleysprigs LOL! Noted..

The termites are doing one helluva job already after almost 5 years now!

  • @rvr2 You should buy some shitake mushroom spawn and put it in the tree stump, or any type of mushroom spawn you like. It'd be the best thing you could ever do. you'll get pounds of mushrooms for free.

  • @parsleysprigs I totaly understand..

If it wasn't threatening to grash through my house, it would still be standing today.

  • This is the sadist thing, I've ever known the sound of the saw brings tears to my eyes.
