An introduction to my review of TC Electronic's new Impact Twin FireWire audio interface, which you can read and hear in its entirety over at http://www.homestudioguru.com/ojxos

UPDATE (Aug 2010): I got some flak for recording a "distorted" acoustic guitar directly from the acoustic pickup into the Impact Twin (i.e., not a good demo and "I shouldn't have done that") on this video. And the flak came directly from one of my equipment suppliers (need to let me rep there know...LOL). This is one of the TOP equipment suppliers in the country that I've patronized since 1993, so I'm a little offended that one of their sales reps would level their criticism at TCE and my initial use of the unit.

Anyway, the point of plugging the acoustic straight in and recording it into the "subpar" QuickTime (ahem...24 bits/44.1KHz...makes no matter what platform really) was to show how decent the sound was using a meager setup.

If you want to hear what it can do under "pro" conditions, go here for my follow-up video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Onk69xrkuV4

And as always, hit me directly with criticism...don't blame TC Electronic...they neither paid me nor expected this review. Try to take this review in the spirit that was intended; this was meant to show what can be done with the unit in very "reduced" circumstances and to introduce the written review.

  • how do u hook it up i just got mine and it just wont work , i have my speakers plugged in to the main out´s and connected it via firewire , but when I choose it as my audio out computer says "the selected device has no controls for audio out" you know what the problem might be please respond back

  • @killerbeatzdk Sounds like it could be some sort of driver issue. Do you have a PC? Make sure you have the latest driver from TC. I use a Mac and have no issues.

  • Herr Shame, danke für dieses Video

Wo ist das Griff signifikante "Grim" (if you know what I mean, heh hehhehe)

Guitaris sounds pleasuring to me earlobes with the "Grim" knob, you know. You promized a "Grim" so I buy deviant container of interfacial for the "Grim" sound, you know. And Know I find "Grim" to be NOWEHER to be located. Shame, shame on you.

  • @gtroblq Thanks for checking in, gtroblq. Possibly English is oblique too? LOL! I will now go away in shame.

  • Impact Twin seems logical and practical. Investing in Logic Studio 9 /macbook pro. At a standstill on interface. Duet is optimun choice for my portable and mobile system. how does the Twin stand up compared to the Duet (more importantly) in sound and quality? I realize theTwin has more in/outs. Like the Twins set-up and features. Will the Twin also work and be reconized by Logic studio 9? user reviews on The Twin/ Focusrite dsp 24 is next to none. Please advise.

  • @RADLADRICK Check out my updated review to hear what you can do with the Impact Twin and Logic (my setup).
