My grandfather, Jerome Lee Martin. Here is a poem he wrote for the occasion:
"At the close of the show the next face
A representative of Edison made me a case
Said "Martin, I wonder if I could hire
To show our stuff before the Black Maria"
A bargain was made a date was set
At the West Orange Depot there you were met
Said Wissard (sic) Edison: I sent for you to ride and rope
Before the Edison movie Kinetiscope"

1894 Thomas Edison's kinetoscope, but not cinematographe 1895 by .Louis and Auguste Lumiere. It-s very different.

Thanks. This was one of the very first movies ever made. These first movies were just short shots of various activities. It was preserved by the Library of Congress. I thought that a film of an actual cowboy of the era would give some depth of realism to the song.
