Joseph Raymond McCarthy (November 14, 1908 -- May 2, 1957) was an American politician who served as a Republican U.S. Senator from the state of Wisconsin from 1947 until his death in 1957. Beginning in 1950, McCarthy became the most visible public face of a period in which Cold War tensions fueled fears of widespread Communist subversion.[1] He was noted for making claims that there were large numbers of Communists and Soviet spies and sympathizers inside the United States federal government and elsewhere. Ultimately, McCarthy's tactics and his inability to substantiate his claims led him to be censured by the United States Senate.

Born and raised on a Wisconsin farm, McCarthy earned a law degree at Marquette University in 1935 and was elected as a circuit judge in 1939, the youngest in state history.[3] At age 33, McCarthy volunteered for the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II. He successfully ran for the United States Senate in 1946, defeating Robert M. La Follette, Jr. After three largely undistinguished years in the Senate, McCarthy rose suddenly to national fame in February 1950 when he asserted in a speech that he had a list of "members of the Communist Party and members of a spy ring" who were employed in the State Department.[4] McCarthy was never able to prove his sensational charge. (until after cold war)

MccArthy Questioned aspects of the Nuremberg Findings with senator Taft:
In an incident for which he would be widely criticized, McCarthy lobbied for the commutation of death sentences given to a group of Waffen-SS soldiers convicted of war crimes for (alledgedly) carrying out a 1944 Malmedy massacre of American soldiers. McCarthy was critical of the convictions because of allegations of torture during the interrogations that led to the German soldiers' confessions. He charged that the U.S. Army was engaged in a coverup of judicial misconduct."

"Mr. Justice Jackson, the chief U.S. prosecutor, together with our representative on the bench, showed no hesitation in collaborating with the Soviets in refusing to hear the evidence presented by German defense council proving that the Russians, not the Germans, had murdered 10,000 Polish officers in Katyn Forest. The tribunal instead heard a witness produced by Moscow who said the Germans had committed this crime."
( it was later proven the crime was done by the USSR)

Mccarthy had a friendship with Kennedy. JFK was the only democrat that voted not to censure maccarthy. Maccarthy was also familiar with the Kennedy family and President and commander of Allied ww2 forces Eisenhower.

Mccarthy's charges now accepted as proven facts:

  • @UncleMikeNJ Communism has murdered over one hundred million people you unstudied parasite.

  • McCarthy was correct the entire time.... Now look at the Democrat Party, it's been taken over by the far Left.

  • @Pete2Pete375 I think your reaching a little there. Didn't hear anything in that video that implied that "no republicans aren't loyal". Or to put it an easier way; that all republicans are loyal. You just come off as being as intolerant to republicans as you accuse them of being against you. (and I'm not a republican myself) anyway, feel free to have the last word. Im moving on.

  • @RDJ1109 I don't like the statement because he implies that no republicans aren't loyal. I'm sure there are many groups of republican-voting groups today that are just as detestable as an communists spies were then.

  • @1yearyounger Did you listen to what he said? he was referring to a "small group" of far left leaning democrats. He also said most democrats love their country and are as loyal to it as any republican.

  • Jeez, fucking conservative republicans. Anybody with a left view is considered a communist, and any communist is considered a supporter of Stalin. Corporations have rigged the game in Washington and spewed out fear inciters like McCarthy to propagate untrue bullshit about progressive democrats.

  • @FreedomLover1973 The Founders were willing to share more power with the people than most governments up to that date, but they still set up a republic that would maintain the power of the oligarchy. The greatness of the Founders was that a few of them were true radicals and they put in place the mechanisms, free speech, the democratic process and the rule of law, to redistribute power from the few to the many as it should be.

  • @calamagrostis88 WE were founded as a REPUBLIC. Have you read the Federalist Papers? If not, you may want to. See, this is where the schizm lies. Some want to fundamentally shift away from the way the Founders ideas, and structures, that they fought the worlds greatest power to put in place. And some want to stick with the fundamentals of that structure, fundamentals that made us rise to the Great Nation that we are, and could be again. I do agree that the system has been corrupted though.

  • @FreedomLover1973 The people who are subservient to the oligarchy always make this democracy vs republic argument, ignoring the fact that the U.S. is both, it is a democratic republic. We have an indirect democracy, but it is still a democracy, and if we elect representitives to pass socialist policies in our name then that is the democratic will and the law of the land. The problem is that the system is so corrupted by corporate money that our representitives don't represent us.

  • @calamagrostis88 You see, your second sentence in the preceding comment to which I am now replying, shows how truly ignorant you are; which is probably the result of the INTENTIONAL "dumbing down" of our education system, if so, know that I don't intend that as an insult. America is NOT a DEMOCRACY, inspite of what you have been taught. America is a REPUBLIC. A DEMOCRACY is more of a "mob rule" system of Gvt. A REPUBLIC is where the people elect REPRESENTATIVES to represent them in said GVT.
