Anorexia nervosa can be a killer. This eating disorder is usually driven by intense fear and many have almost given up on finding a treatment or a therapy that will provide a full cure.
One of the difficulties in treating someone who is really in the grips of anorexia nervosa is that they fear being cured, because the cure is linked in their mind to the horrible feelings they get when they think about not controlling their diet.
Most people who are anorexic have lucid moments when they look at themselves in the mirror and think Oh my God! Most are also aware that they dont look right, that people stare at them because they are so thin and emaciated.
Of all the eating disorders we help people with this one can take the longest to treat. Very often bulimia, even chronic bulimia, can be sorted in a few hours. Nevertheless, we have seen a lot of success through the years, even with those suffering from extreme symptoms of anorexia.
The approach is a well proven blend of NLP, neuro linguistic programming, and hypnosis. This is very direct work, training the person to have more flexibility and choice in their thinking and the work does not involve us listening to you telling us how difficult your life has been. Counselling has its place and can be very beneficial, but with anorexia nervosa counselling sessions tend to go round in circles, repeatedly. Who cares why you are anorexic? The important thing is to get you to stop it and start eating a healthy balanced diet, with the aim of being lean and fit.

  • @Serieth that is slightly ignorant.

  • This is all so very, very intense. My girlfriend has Anorexia Nervosa and she isn't getting any help about it, it seems that she wants to to an extent, but her Family aren't willing to except the fact that she has an eating disorder and then start paying for Therapy.

This has helped educated Me to an extend and given Me a small amount of information to talk to her about, but in the long run, I'm lost as to what I can do.

I'm only 17 and thus can't afford to pay for the Therapy and nor can she.

  • Yeh, its called Food

  • I'd be delighted if it had been possible to treat my anorexia nervosa in 6-10 sessions! Actually, it's taken more like 60 sessions... and I still struggle with anxiety and OCD. Some of the thoughts and feelings you describe in this video about how an anorexic feels are accurate, but for me it little to do with wanting to be lean, healthy or fit. It was about coping with negative emotions, many of which were related to sexual abuse. Anorexia numbs emotions + fears. That's why is feels to 'work'.
