@gearhead48 Its scarry but an interesting piece of engineering and you learned something.

Probably for the best. You could always loan it to your in-laws...

I can't wait to finish the safety portion of this project so I can do just that. The safety portion is necessary, but the adding enough weight, and the speculation of how much to add, is the part I like best.
To see how close (or off) the estimate in your head is to real life. The accuracy of ones perception if you will. This is the juice that makes me do my projects! :D

Yeah!!! I think after everything is finished... you'll find that the little engine you have will be plenty, because all you really need is momentum. ...and that means just adding PLENTY of weight to the wheel.
Okay, I checked out part six. Here's the deal. You need to cut that damn splitting maul head off of there and replace it with a log splitter wedge like you can get through Northern Tools It's item number 3060. The maul has steep sides for separation of log sections at low velocity. This is why when used on the spinning wheel of death, it shoots shards of wood everywhere. Get a DC welder and use 7018 rod. @localcrew
I now have access to a buddy's hydraulic splitter, so I gave up on this project. I didn't like using this thing anyway, always terrified!

Really nice piece of equipmant, and I want to thank you for posting this series of videos. I am looking at building one of these, and your video series saved me a lot of development time.
I am trying to figure out something to use as the wheel that is heavy enough to carry the energy/inertia.
Thanks again
