  • @Lysimachus78 It's always interesting to ask people where the lake of fire will burn for all eternity. All the Scripture verses that speak of the burning of the wicked, have the event taking place on the earth; not under it, not some other distant planet, moon, or sun...but ON the earth.

Sometimes I ask, "is God just going to section off Australia, and put all the wicked there?" (No offense to my Australian brethren).

Know what I mean? The traditional view is just illogical.

Amen! Preach it brother! Sadly, all those Christians who teach in 1. The Immortality of the Soul, and 2. Eternal Torment in flames that lick the souls of men throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity, as long as God shall live, are simply rehashing insidious, Greek, pagan philosophies stemming from Plato who basked in Pagan ideologies. All those Christians who teach such doctrine are ignorantly pagan with a Christian coating.

  • Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. (I Cor. 3:13-15).

  • He's a little off in this one. Everything else so far I agree with him. When God uses the word "death" in the bible, it means being away from him, and without his grace. When he refers to physical death, he says "sleep." Hell _is_ eternal torment because these people (hopefully not me :)) will be _Cast out_ from "heaven" (aka his presence) for ever. When God speaks of fire consuming someone, is that _burning_ desire of the soul to be with God. One of many examples: Luke 13:28.

  • When he says Getsemane (however it should be spelled) it's like he's saying Yosemite...

  • @Suge212 ...so I think it is much more reasonable to interpret this verse and the verses about "smoke of their torment" this way than it is to interpret some kind of endless torment into the other verses that so clearly speak of destruction, ashes, consuming away, death, death/destruction of the soul, etc. You have to do one or the other, or it is a contradiction.

  • @Suge212 I think he addresses this sufficiently between 2:20 & 3:40. The same words have clearly been used to refer to other events that are not of an infinite duration. I think that the phrase translated "for ever and ever" (literally "ages unto the ages") is a figure of speech with no exact English equivalent. This happens often when translating, and likewise English also has a lot of words that couldn't be expressed precisely in ancient Greek or Hebrew.

  • "and the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever." Revelation 20:9-10

This is the one that gets me. He doesn't explain this one. There is a beast and a false prophet there. The devil gets thrown in with them and they are tormented DAY and NIGHT, FOR EVER and EVER.

    Can anyone help explain this?
