You know I have a lot of friends who work as volunteer fire fighters. Regretfully because of my leg, I would be no use to them now, but all the same I applaud their efforts and self sacfrice. I know firemen who risked their lives helping the common man, and all they get is a pat on the back.
You don't see them charging people for putting out fires or doing CPR.
And that's where the Hammer misses the point. Healthcare is no different than fire fighting. Its about life--not death
Exactly. Right on! The Hammer can only see in the now, he doesn't know about tomorrow. I hope nobody gets sick, not even the Hammer, but he will learn soon enough that the insurance he has will one day screw him or raise his premiums as he gets older.
Yes it is inevitable. You can't hold down these ideas. As for the pre-existing condition debate. I'm sure almost all of us have some sort of health condition in some form. I walk with a limp because of an accident I had two years ago. It doesn't bother me, b ut if I were to ever buy individual insurance I would prably be banned from getting it.
Employer based benefits cannot deny someone like me because of a bad leg, but if I went privaste: Watch out! I'd be blocked.
@pluto4847 As I told Hammer:"You have the best insurance? So you hope. Never had a problem? Yet. Health is a privilege? I take it that you don't have children and you are presently healthy. You sound like you are young-God bless you, because that can and will change." People call themselves "conservatives" and don't know why. I guess they want to be with the "in" crowd. The same crowd that has it "in" for them.
@pluto4847 Nope. Great for Vermont. But just like Canada, the states will pass it first then we'll get it nationwide. It's inevitable and the Republicans know it.
Whilst the Republican bitch in the house about repeal, little old Vermont hid in the background and finally passed single payer. That's a tremendous achievement if I do say so myself.
Regretfully, I am not from Vermont. I am from Pennsylvania. In this state they expect you to either buy coverage or get it from your employer.
@pluto4847 As Frederick Douglass advised: "Agitate, agitate, agitate!" The system we have now is simply not good enough, we as a people can do much better than this.
@pluto4847 I've always maintained that SPHC will come the same way it did in Canada; the provinces first then nationwide. I had hoped that the adminstration and Congress would just expand Medicare coverage to universal and leave it at that. But as long as guys like Grover Norquist have sway over policy, it will be an uphill battle.
TheHammer777 talks some big words, but he is no different than any of us. Maybe one day, he could find himself in a recession, and I'd doubt he's still preach what he is preaching today.
Even amongst the insured, they are not even protected. Insurance companies don't always cover medical expenses.
So yes, regardless of what you hear about repeal, the New England States are the laboritories of universal healthcare. WE will all have Universal healthcare. Its a matter of time.
