On Sunday, August 17, 2008, Deacon Jason Charron was ordained to the Holy Priesthood of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church by Vladyka Robert Moskal at the Cathedral of St. Josaphat in Parma, Ohio. Father Jason, along with his wife, Presbytera Halyna and beautiful family are now serving at the parish of Sts. Volodomyr and Olha in Garner, North Carolina. The whole family is missed at their previous parish of many years--St. Elias, in Brampton, ON. May God grant them many years! Axios! Axios! Axios! (Row footage by Harold & Rebecca Visser of Ottawa

  • Its sad that we have this confusion about if its Orthodox or Catholic. This is a "hybrid" if you will, Orthodox tradition but rejects much of the theological aspects of Orthodoxy. I pray one day the churches will unite, for Orthodoxy is the true faith..... Come Home

  • On the contrary, we accept MOST of the theological aspects of Orthodoxy (Christology, eschatology, devotion to the Theotokos etc.) We have far more in common than you think. In a world that is increasingly secular (or Muslim), we better find a better way to talk to each other. I join you in prayer for the union of all (it's in our petitions in the Liturgy--"our" meaning yours and mine.) The number of Orthodox subscribers I have tell me that we are on the "same page."

  • please, forgive my ignorance. are they Orthodox? everything looks Orthodox, but it said "Ukrainian Catholic"?

  • Father Jason is a priest in the Ukrainian Catholic Church--and yes, we should look Orthodox. We are not Roman Catholic, but one of several sui iuris Churches that make up the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

  • father jason is my school priest :P he came into my careers class today to talk about this and he showed us this video

  • @Menechem Before the 1100's--but not in North America in the last century. The world has changed and married Catholic clergy (albeit Eastern Catholic) ordained on North American soil are no longer a strange or unusual creature.

  • @muscleslave001 This has been going on for hundreds of years (the 1100's) what do you mean finally?

  • Man! I can only imagine how he's feeling! Overcome with joy! Watching this is helping me discern my vocation to the Priesthood!

  • It is great to finally see that the Western Church finally is reallystart respecting the Eastern Churches and all the great traditions they contribute with to the Catholic Church; including the blessings of married presbyters !!!!!

  • Sts. Vladimir and Olga may bless this new priest.

Still I think it is sad, how much vernacular language has been introduced. It defiles the holy traditions of the Ruthenian and other Eastern Churches. The vernacular languages today change quickly, and melody intoning often mismatches with English translations. May God grant the Eastern Catholic Churches and the (traditional!) Latin Church may vocations. Please conserve Catholic orthodoxy, without compromise.
