With the kora player Mamadou Diabate (Mali / USA) in my home in Vienna in March 2006.

He belongs to the north-western branch of the Diabates with the kora tradition, I (Burkina Faso / Austria) belong to the south-eastern branch maintaining the balafon tradition.

Our family has maintained the art of making music for many centuries. The first Diabate was mentioned in the Sundjata Epos from the 13th century.

  • Beautiful music from Mali, miss home.

  • Thanks youtube.

How can the main stream media hide Africa anymore.

    God Bless Africa.

Africa will definitely rise,COME WHAT MAY

  • The kora and balafon both work well even with modern jazz instruments. (Witness some of Salif Keita's work.) It is nice to see the tradition being kept alive. Perhaps now would be a good time to infuse some new life into Western music.
