Issued 1978 on Warner Bros 8659. From the LP "Mannequin" on Warner Bros KBS 3143.

This is what one would call the "standard" version of "Marina Del Rey." It contains a reference to smoking pot, and an expletive. Some radio stations wouldn't play the record with that lyric, so Marc went back to the studio and recut those lines. This version has the lines unaltered.

  • This couldn't be more Yacht Rock if Koko himself had produced it!

  • If that were translated to English, what would it say?

  • Beatiful. Where is Marc at the moment????Is he still making music????

  • You'd have to ask someone in Canada what Marc is doing now. Last I knew, he was performing in Lunch At Allen's with Ian Thomas and Murray McLauchlan, and a woman whose name I can't remember. That group seems to have split up. Marc had a website until last year, when it disappeared. Maybe someone reading this will be able to tell you what he is up to now.

  • OK, now I *have* to find an MJ Greatest Hits on CD. He had some great songs, not familiar with his more recent material.

  • There is no Marc Jordan Greatest Hits. The "Mannequin" album was issued on CD with some tape damage and other mastering inadequacies in Japan in 1997. It's out of print, and the two copies I can find for sale right now are $45 and $60. But hey, good luck!

  • That's an All Star cast. I just saw Steely Dan a couple of weeks ago in Ottawa, talk about a clean & tight sound, it was fantastic.

  • For years, I thought that Jimmy Buffet was singing this thing (too much of my mother's light-rock in the house blended everything together). I have to say I was really surprised to find this here...and pleased. Nice groove for a nice little world described here. ;)

  • @mojofilter02 Cindy Church is the woman's name.

  • Who koko? koko i don't know, who koko?

  • @Gradycat9 Indeed, music really is an amazing thing. I get taken back to those early days when I hear Paul McCartney & Wings as well. There are certain songs that just go straight to the soul and open up a window that's been closed for YEARS. All the best to you Grady :)

  • @Johnnywhamo it sounds like those were some incredible times! I love that music has that power over us. So many memories, people, places and faces are linked to music. All it takes is that certain song..... :)))

  • I hear this song and it takes me back to Camp Brebeuf in Rockwood. I was 14 and having the best summers of my LIFE. it almost makes me want to cry from happiness. I can smell the campfire and burn hot dogs eaten with great joy.

  • Gary Katz could do no wrong in producing music."Mannequin" is an all time classic album-1978 what a year for music-the beginning of the west coast sound era

  • holly crap i nostalgiad so hard listening to this

  • I've been a fan of Marc's since I first heard him in '78 in Lambeth/London, Ontario, and a diehard fan of Steely Dan since '72. Had no idea there was any connection. Thanx for the terrific post!!!!!!
