Actually the the general opinion in britain used to be that lynch was a little better than wilde. Its only since the yanks latched on to wilde (because he fought there)that jimmy has become overrated!

There wasnt such a great timespan between both fighters, but its obvious when you compare footage that lynch looks far more advanced technically and would have knocked wilde out.

It is worth a mention that on 25th January 1915 Tancy Lee (Scottish boxer), knocked Jimmy Wilde out and took his IBU world title off him. They faught again on 26 June 1915 and this time Jimmy regainecd the title...

Hey rocsthedog...thanks for your comment. You are absolutely right ..these guys were true warriors... Nowadays "big name" fighters only have to fight a couple of times a year over 12 rounds and make millions (all respect to them)...But in those days it was hard ..they had to fight every other week just to scratch a living...unlimited rounds, and very little padding in their gloves,(sometimes bare knuckle)..real hard men who as champions, in those times, deserve utmost respect.

Your words are very true ... Benny was a superb fighter, a wee man with the heart of a lion.... When he returned to Scotland after winning the title he was totaly ignored by Glasgow City Council and the governing bigwigs... but over 100 thousand ordinary people lined the streets to welcome him home ... He was the peoples champion, the first Scotish Champion of the world and a true Scottish hero.
