This is one of two dolphins that got stuck in Sandwick Bay, just outside Stornoway. It is seriously injured, and has had to be put down after this video was taken. The other one had to be euthanised as well.

  • Ninjamaster,

This goes back 9 months, to June 2007. Sometimes, in order to minimise suffering to a wild creature, it is better to end its life. These dolphins were not able to swim or feed properly, and would have died soon anyway - an agonising death of starvation.

  • poor thing, sooo sad. I love dolphins, it makes me want to cry to see this.

  • There is a report and further images of this stranding on the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (Google for it as can't post URL's) ... and more info about BDMLR at my page. Thanks for your interest.

  • Take a look at the web site of British Divers Marine Life Rescue (bdmlr[dot]org[dot]uk), in the June news section for more details and images.

  • Sad video! Did they manage to save the dolphin? It's a mystery why dolphins and whales sometimes beach themselves.
