  • No shows of a similar genre are a patch on this, let's be fair

  • @TheKenfig That is true. The Sweeney to this day is still the quintessential police show in the UK. It set a benchmark for not just cop series, but also in general crime dramas on the small screen. It paved the way for stuff like Out, Gangsters, The Chinese Detective, Strangers, etc. Its influence can never be underestimated.

  • Just thought of something here and I had to post it......you forgot to include McQueen from SWEENEY! as like Carter said "THEY DIDN'T KILL HIM....YOU DID!!!"

  • @CI5AgentSweeps True, that's very true, Sweeps :). But Regan didn't directly waste him, he set him up. ;)

  • Does anyone know the name of that synth incidental track at the start of the clip? It wasn't on the 2001 "Shut It" CD, which was a bit of a let down seeing as it was one of the best pieces they on the show.

  • @jexplink I don't, but I used to have it burned to my old laptop. What I did was go on my ripper, select 'music only' track and then rip the scene which had that music on before transferring the audio out, using Movie Maker. That tune was also used in Faces, Tomorrow Man and Taste Of Fear.

  • @bobbygray100 Nope because he didn't kill anyone in them. He only killed in the series although I'll bet he felt like killing the hitmen in Sweeney!

  • That SB episode features Dennis Waterman as an ex-squaddie who steals a bazooka. That role led to him being cast as Carter in The Sweeney. I've been thinking about getting UFO.

I've got another 1970s crime show on DVD called The XYY Man. Stephen Yardley played Spider Scott, a professionals thief who works for the Secret Service. Very gritty in places and fast-moving. Granada Plus repeated it in '97.

  • The Saint with Roger Moore was good, harmless fun. Like you said, the fact it was studio-set made it quite naff, but at least in ROTS, they moved about more in countries like Italy and Spain. My brother-in-law watched The Champions recently on ITV4. Sometimes, he also watches UFO. UFO had some gorgeous ladies too like Gabrielle Drake and Andrea Allan.

  • the box set of Sw. isnt there but ive not watched it yet ; working my way through the box slowly ! I tell you what i bought a couple of years ago in HMV sale was a box set of U.F.O. from 1970 that i liked as a kid tho im not really a sci-fi fan. Also, series 1 of 'KUNG FU' ; thats awesome and again reminded me of childhood !
