@Pepito0001001001 This was an elaborate spoof devised by Churchill to make the Germans think the Allies were going to attack on the section of coastline where the massive concrete wall had been built. U-boat patrols would have seen the trials going on the public beach at Westward Ho!. There were over 15 filmed public 'trials' of various forms of the prototype.

The common name is Great as you say - this was conceived by the author Neville Shute and I have all the film of the original prototypes being tested on the same beaches. I called it GRAND as this was a replica that really didn't bear much resemblance to the GREAT Panjandrum - just to avoid confusion. Glad you watched it though!

AIUI, the device was actually called 'The Great Panjandrum' (not 'Grand' as in the nonsense poem), and was larger than this replica, being 10ft diameter with 1ft wide tracks/wheels. It was so hopeless it never worked properly, and surely must have been a spoof decoy.

Agreed, but the RED with all its plugin bits and pieces isn't designed for a handheld full auto shoot like this was. Also, I bought the EOS5D MkII for a tenth of the equivalent performance RED (including the lenses that I have) so it's a fantastic bit of gear. You learn to use it like a film camera. The tools are what you make them. The Canon light sensitivity betters RED. With separate Sony PCM 24 bit recorder, I get the best audio.

the 5D footage has that RED look about it, but the camera is not really designed for video. The size and shape, together with awkward work flow and terrible audio support makes it a real problem to shoot video with. I work for Skyburst, although was not involved with this event. Maybe I should have come along with the RED? .
