@InGodslight I guess it would take too long, or the silk would be damaged in some way or something. It's cruel, I know. :l
But raw silk looks beautiful ..

if you wait till the catapillar turns into a moth, the moth will damage the cocoon that cant be spun.

once the worms turn into moths, they secret a liquid that melts away some of the coccoon so that they can get out. this damages the quality of the silk.

Oh And I was meaning to ask, is there a reason why they cant wait until the catapillar emerges as a moth before they extract the silk?
