  • The majority of Americans don't even know about Go's existence, let alone what it's about.

But yes, I agree that Go should be more publicified in the States.

  • Chess is better than go. Go is an attention whore always bashing on chess. Fuck you!

  • cool! i wish go was more well known in the western world

  • So Good video.

  • SHE IS SUPER CUTE!!!

  • @MatthewPalumbo For now in the US spreading the word on Go is about piqueing interest one person at a time. For one, hardly anyone in America knew about Toyota until the Oil Crisis of '73. Soon something should happen to make the public's interest in Go take off.

I wonder, how would it be if we had a Cold War with China or NK...

  • @Sieg15 Learning the right playing habits from the first game is essential to improving at Go. Of course you still gotta put in the hours (i.e., playing plenty of games and chewing on plenty of tsumego ^^), but learning the right way to play now will make things much easier later on. I picked up the game in June 2006, but only now am I beginning to develop an understanding of the right way to play Go.

Kids learning Go practice like crazy to get good. Adults players should too.

  • @rm06c Would an inner city Black (or other non-Asian) kid want to become a Go player in the first place? ("Nerd games" are hard to sell in America nowadays :( )

Ever since the NBA, NFL, and MLB started offering multi-million dollar annual purses to their star players, just about every boy and his brother dreams of becoming one of them. Not all of them make it, of course, but the fame & fortune that comes with being a star player is a powerful draw.

  • @Kenwolf21 Go can be publicized in the US, but it will take a few decades at least. Now, if we were in a Cold War with China or NK...

If you really want to make Go go mainstream in the US, one way to begin is by offering fabulous purses to promising Go talent. Would you give a potential 5p hopeful $15 million a year? Or at least $5 million?

  • If I had a penny for every time she said "hi"

  • @aragorn202 no dobut, im american, but i play this, and believe it should be a world wide gaming sport :)
