Michael Jackson 1958-2009: The Life and Legacy of the King of Pop

Fans around the world are still mourning the passing of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. Jackson catapulted to fame on the Motown Records label as the youngest member of the Jackson 5 but soon embarked on a solo career that made him the biggest star in the country and one of the most globally recognized entertainers. Michael Jacksons immensely popular music, dance moves and videos were known and loved across the world, but in the last decade of his life, it was his multiple plastic surgeries and allegations of child molestation that dominated media attention. We take a look at the life and legacy of the pop icon with Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Margo Jefferson, author of On Michael Jackson, and Duke University professor Mark Anthony Neal. • jackson was a one-of-a-kind genius.

  • I would tend to agree, however,

I think you are a person who believes in the constitution and the rule of law, right?

MJ was never convicted of child-molestation, so you must accept that fact (again, if you believe in rule of law).

  • I feel the same way as this man that Michael Jackson marks the end of my nostalgic childhood, teenagehood, and adulthood. Because him and I are the same age and have come through the same times in life together, I feel empty without him being around. I'm not feeling that woman though.

  • Hi. The host needs to improve the way she presents. Very mental torturing as the way she presented was simply reading from the script. Not really discussing. Too Fast the way she talks and we have to not only try to grasp what she is trying to convey but also wanting to know about theme of MJ. I am sorry I juz feel that it was kind stressful to hear fr what she said. Too much infor. I am sorry. Thanks!

  • I'm a huge MJ fan. Read Margo's bok and I loved it. I thought it was very thoughtful and wellwritten and, best of all, unbiased.

  • @pipoeia I totally agree with you, when the guy called MJ a freakshow it just made me cringe. As an artist he gave us so much, yet all the media wanted to talk about was his face reconstruction and molestation charges, of which is was acquitted. So frustrating. And Margo was just plain annoying.

  • i love people who spread ignorance around like "bhibatsu". michael deserves everything he gets and those kids and their greedy parents are not important.

  • its because of people like u these problems are occuring, when michael was on trial and everyone was focusing on it, why didnt people like u say something then? and i love the OJ comparison, no michael was acquitted because the family was caught lying and had a history of extortion, nice try.

  • Margo you are disgusting- you were judge and jury, Asshole he is Innocent. You and your book should burn in Hell!!!

You are very very very Devilish!!!

  • okay, so I skimmed through the book of this Margo Jefferson and I just threw it on the floor in disgust... I cannot call myself a Michael Jackson fan just because I started to love his music and learn his lyrics by heart in the past three months out of respect of his long time admirers. I informed myself with all that implied Michael Jackson's name and legacy and I was able to build an opinion over what I read, saw and listened in the media. Has anyone read this lady's book?
