DEMOCRAT TOM CURITORE ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY
FOR 49TH DISTRICT COUNCIL SEAT

Supporters gather at new campaign headquarters as former Borough Transportation Commissioner kicks off council campaign

Tom Curitore, a lifelong Staten Islander and resident of St. George, announced today his candidacy for the North Shore City Council seat. Joined by family, friends, and supporters, the former Borough Transportation Commissioner expressed his commitment to bringing real change to the North Shore.

Our community faces many challenges, Curitore said, and here's what no other candidate is willing to tell you: there is no master plan to solve them all. The secret to success in the North Shore is go to problem by problem, corner by corner, and implement real, common sense improvements step by step, and as quickly as possible. That is how you make our community better, safer, and stronger, and that is what I intend to do as your next Council Member.

A twenty-two year veteran of City service, Curitore began his career as a New York City police officer, working his way up to Detective, First Grade. After Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg assumed office in 2002, he was named First Deputy Commissioner at the Mayor's Community Assistance Unit. His trademark enthusiasm and unparalleled attention to detail earned him a promotion in 2006, when Curitore returned home to Staten Island to serve as the Borough's Transportation Commissioner, where he oversaw the successful implementation of the short-term initiatives of the Mayor's Transportation Task Force.

All of my life I've heard that government is broken and can't be fixed, Curitore said. But in my eighteen months at DOT, working closely with different agencies and local communities, we proved that even the smallest of changes can significantly improve the quality of life of Staten Islanders. I'm running for Council to show that government can work, and work well, when people stop pointing fingers and start tackling problems.
