A recent Robert Silverman performance of the final movement from Mussorgsky iconic piano masterpiece. Arguably one of Hartmann's finest drawings, it was submitted as an architectural drawing for a competition to design a gate in Kiev, to be erected to commemorate the the unsuccessful attempt there on the life of Czar Alexander II. The gate was never built, but thanks to Mussorgsky, its grandeur will remain fixed in our imaginations for all time.
