The final portion of Maurice Duruflé's "Prelude, Adagio & Choral Varié" on the Latin hymn "Veni Creator".

Philippe Lefebvre performs on the instrument installed in 1971, in a recording made 10 years after the installation.

  • This is so beautiful, it fills me with hope and a feeling of light.

  • I love Durufle. Thank you!

  • This is about a half-step higher than the recording that I have...hmm.

  • @smvanroode I was wrong... It's certainly by Duruflé and it's a great recording!

  • The last few minutes of part 2 and this final part are not by Maurice Duruflé. Its Variations sur Lucis Creator by Jehan Alain (JA 27). Alain wrote this wonderful piece in 1932 as a prize-winning exercise while he was in Georges Caussade's counterpoint class at the Paris Conservatoire.

  • @Bachlives2

I think it's a Gonzales, which definitely has an anglo-american reputation about it. I'm surrounded by anglo-american organs. When I go to France I want to hear a French organ, be it the most romantic of Cavaille-Coll or Beuchet-Debierre's finest neoclassic, or even a well-restored Clicquot. This kind of instrument strikes no chords with me.

  • @willowthebored I forget the name of the builder but I don't really care for the organ. The organ is over all a bit bland.

  • I'm not going to lie, I like Latry's interpretation a lot more. The registrations here are kind of bland, albeit the loss of quality uploading to Youtube may be warping the sound. Don't like the full chorus, either, it doesn't sound particularly loud at all, not very French.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Such beautiful music, and the photography is wonderful, too!

  • hi i love this recording. where can i get it? maybe on vinyl?
