Celebrating now over 50 years of Motown music with a beautiful song but a rather sad tale. Roger Penzabene composed three songs for The Temptations. The first being "You're My Everything", an expression of the love and devotion he had for his wife. "You're My Everything" with Eddie Kendricks taking the lead vocal peaked at #6 for The Tempts during the late summer of 1967. However, while this recording was riding high on the charts, Penzabene had discovered that his wife was cheating on him, but he couldn't find it in himself to leave her so he wrote two other songs, "I Could Never Love Another (After Loving You)", and "I Wish It Would Rain". Roger Penzabene committed suicide on New Year's Eve, 1967, shortly after the release of The Temptations' "I Wish It Would Rain".

  • @anbrown78 Whenever I listen to the three songs Roger wrote the lyrics I always think of him. I truly believe Roger wrote from the heart. The pain that he felt had to have run so deep. "I Could Never Love Another (After Loving You)" is what I consider to the the ultimate Temptations' recording. Roger will never be forgotten.

  • The greatest male group ever. Anyone disagree with that??

  • that was the year i got drafted into the us army

  • Thank you for this poignant background, and my heart goes out to those who miss Roger so always.

  • if anyone would know it would the man who co- wrote this song with him..

  • Roger Penzabene was my father's BEST FRIEND, from toddlers on up. Roger passed on about 4 days before my daddy came home from Viet Nam and he still holds that pain deep in his heart. They sang together, they rolled together, fought together, they were inseparable. My dad said to me that he loves his brothers with all his heart, but Roger was even closer than them. If anyone out there can help me make contact with his family, please let me know, pictures, stories, facts, anything to help.

  • goes into my SOUL :-)
