Watch the trailer for the documentary MORNING LIGHT, in theaters this Fall, 2008.

Fifteen young sailors...six months of intense training...one chance at the brass ring. This documentary tells the inspiring story of a group of intrepid and determined young men and women, on the cusp of adulthood, as they embark on life's first great adventure. Racing a high-performance 52-foot sloop in the TRANSPAC, the most revered of open-ocean sailing competitions, the crew of "MORNING LIGHT" matches wits and skills in a dramatic 2300 mile showdown against top professionals. From their earliest training sessions in Hawaii conducted by world-class teachers through their test of endurance on the high seas, they form an unbreakable bond in the process of becoming a singular team that is greater than the sum of its parts.

  • I have been sailing and racing for more than 40 years. This is one of the best sailing movies I have ever seen.

  • @killdac i agree, but i personally know one of the guys from this crew, his name is Piet Van Os. his family is definitely wealthy, but he was a skilled waterman/sailor before ever doing this film. I haven't watched this film yet, so I dont know how he was portrayed in this film, but Piet is a true waterman. He knows a lot about the ocean and sailing.

  • This was NOT a recreation. The movie is a documentary. Disney held a contest to select the young sailors. Roy Disney and his wife financed the boat and crew. They brought in world class sailing experts to train the crew and entered them in the race.

Token black my ASS. My sailing club in Northern Alabama has several black sailors. Please check your prejudices at the door!

  • I absolutely LOVE this movie... Being a female teen sailor it gives me a dream...Before I graduate college I either want to do the transpacific race or newport to Bermuda.. This movie just is a total inspiration!!

  • one of the best sailing movie i´ve ever seen... does anyone know if its available translated into spanish?? i would like to show that film to some friends... but they would not understand nearlly anything :-P

  • @dlbarch Not many do sail to be honest

  • Why does the presence of a black guy have to be token? What, African-Americans aren't allowed to go sailing? C'mon, be a man, stand tall, and reveal your real name, ya frickin' bigot.

  • contrived, sentimental crap. why can't i be a moron so i could enjoy this too? it's not fair.

  • @memeiminiminx Of course they had to have a black guy in this movie, EVERY press in the world would be on their ass saying they are racist

  • @killdac - don't forget the token black guy. Could they have been more obvious. You're not wrong but there are still people winning without all the fancy gear. I don't think I could have raced with that lot without throwing myself overboard, too many prats.
