Following the huge success of Milky Way, which still continues to gain momentum thanks to deals with major labels Universal France and Sony Switzerland, Swiss super producer Yves Larock is returns with another massive hit, The Zoo.
With remixes from Muzzaik, Houseshaker and Ralph Good, The Zoo is definitely one of the most inventive pieces Yves has come out with of late. Traces of his Africanism roots run through the original; big bumping tribal percussion, child-like village vocals, even animal noises thrown in to totally screw with the idea of a 'traditional' breakdown -- all set up expertly by Yves to pitch themselves against the juxtaposing, driving electronica backdrop. This is not your 'normal' fare, and it's by far all the better for it.
Muzzaik takes the original and adds a major dollop of funk to the proceedings. A massive, rotundly thumping bassline takes the initiative, throwing in synths, organ chords, vocal samples and pitched stabs to create one hell of a fat dance floor bomb. Stripping the elements back even further for his dub, Muzzaik brings the rhythm even more to the fore, allowing it time to breathe and develop into a huge, chunky, rotating masterpiece. Ralph Good goes deeper into the bassline, releasing a Brazilian-style tech-monster miles away from the original one moment, practically straddling it the next.
Originality has always been one of Yves' trademarks, and with both The Zoo and his remix partners, the Swiss artist has yet again struck another vein of pure musical gold.
