The GTO was the brainchild of Pontiac engineer Russell Gee, an engine specialist; Bill Collins, a chassis engineer; and Pontiac chief engineer John De Lorean.

Yes, the GTO was engineered by these fine folks, but Jim Wangers is the one who marketed the car, providing the framework for much of the success the now-legendary car had in sales. The original GTO sold 200x more units than GM management thought it would, and this is largely thanks to Jim's marketing efforts.

I do agree that they could be smaller and still look good.

@amhoyhoy: It's supposed to be a new high-performance take, not a stock GTO. Its motor is also way to big, but nobody cars about that. Personally, I like the wheels, but you can have your own opinion.
