Jimmy Page 1998 Radio Interview WPYX, Albany NY

Jimmy Page and I talk about his guitars, his dragon suit, "Walking into Clarksdale" and rerecording "Kashmir" with Puff Daddy (as he was known at the time) over the internet. He's promoting the "Walking Into Clarksdale" CD and tour. As the guy on the other end of the phone, this was a definite high point of my life (probably not so much for Jimmy, though.) My only regret: being so nervous I called him "Jim" once or twice. I interviewed Robert Plant a few weeks later - but that's another video for another time.

For all of you whom believe Page ranks e between the #2 and #10 best guitarist of all time, let me tell you I have been a guitarist for 30 years; and, I have played all the Hendrix, Sabbath, Vaughn, Clapton, and Frampton covers (to name a few), and Pages' guitar work is by far the most difficult to play and masterfully written and performed. I do not like the subjectivity of ranking a guitarist, but if I were going to rank Page, he would be ranked #1 hands down: it is not even close.

I place him and Jeff Beck neck and neck. But there's no one best guy - you could really argue for a lot of people that are technically more proficient, but maybe their music didn't connect with you as much.

Great interview, but I watched it primarily to learn more about the use of Jimmy's guitars: specifically his Danelectro. I have a newer Danelectro Convertible that I love, and I was hoping to glean some ideas from page from the prior use of his. If you happen to read this Jimmy, feel free to give me a holler. :-)

Unfortunately, I didn't bring up Danelectros in this, although I ended up owning a few several years afterwards. I think he mainly played it on Kashmir, and maybe Black Mountain side, tuned open.

sometime if an artist has something to promote, like a show in town, you can contact their management and ask if they'll do a phone interview with you - the best is when they come by the studio, though.

Rolling stone is a bullshit magazine. They know nothing. In my opinion he is the greatest guitar player. But to rank people is stupid. There is no number 1 guitarist.

Malsteem and Vai were able to stand on his shoulders to see father down the road and Page took from herbert sumlin,jimmy reed robert johnson jimmy rogers ect even chet atkins and of course Les paul. its art not wrestling oe theywear masks .wait a min didn't Vai do that too?
