After Time Machine has been enabled and has begun backing up system, you can easily retrieve older files by clicking on the Time Machine icon in the dock. Your desktop drops away and is replaced by a series of windows that recede against a starry background. Each window represents a backup, and you can navigate between them using the arrows to the right of the windows or the timeline that runs along the right side of your screen. When you're done, just click cancel on the left side of the screen and your system reverts to normal.

  • please start realizing how lame this kind of mac vs. pc (vs.linux?) discussions are. there's smart people that pick windows as well as smart people that pick mac (i can think of lots of programmers and engineers for both, most musicians and sound engineers i know use mac, as do graphic people, most gamers use windows...)

and then there's people who follow hypes (mac?) or stupid discussions. It's just a machine, choose for yourself, be nice to others as you are nice to people with a different car

  • system restore is not the same, as system restore only restores everything on your computer back to a certain day. time machine allows you to restore your entire computer or just a deleted or moved folder/file. it'd be like me permanently deleting a file and then going into time machine to restore only that file.

  • A Mac PC is for technologically incompetent and willingly ignorant people. A Windows PC is for those trying to break the record in lazyness and stupidity. A Gentoo PC is for the masochists who prefer plain text and incomprehensible user interfaces. And a Ubuntu PC is for those who like the problems of a Gentoo PC with the dumbing down of a crossbred Mac/Windows clone.

Am I done? Everyone offended? Ok. ;)

Can we continue like grown-ups now? :)

  • @tootall110 Not quite true.

System Backup and Restore and Shadow copies can also be configured to create snapshots of particular folders and files and save it on a local or an other drive.

  • @BrechtDM those are some wise words mang XD :D

  • @vaibhav402 Understandable.

  • There is simply no other computer that has detailed ways of programming like mac on windows its simply a window with dates of history and look at this "the time machine" I am getting a mac book in january and am looking forward to every moment I will spend with it. :)

  • @522viper agreed...but this one is more user friendly and intuitive...here you can actually select what all u wnna restore...in windows u jus have the date to which u wanna restore your pc to....but i must say windows system restore can be used to cure ur system from virus well sometimes

  • @chobotnorgolbo you can only hope, macfag

  • It's just Microsoft Windows Restore with pretty graphical additions. Apple didn't invent file restore, Microsoft did.

  • Mac computers last much longer. There is a reason they retain their value. Overall, they are better computers.
