YOU ARE A ROLE MODEL. WHEN YOU ARE AN NBA STAR, KIDS LOOK UP TO YOU AND WANT TO BE JUST LIKE YOU. SO TO SAY YOUR NOT A ROLE MODEL,YOUR LYING
-
He just wants the best life for his son, Hoopz...
-
Yet 100,000's teenagers still looked up to you and wanted to be you....

I can picture him being worse than Rocky Balboa when reading his cue cards!!

A professional athlete's contract pays them to play ball, not play preacher who gives life lessons at Sunday church services. Barkley's correct when he says he wasn't paid to be a role model.
That being said, those known for philanthropic work may help the team for marketing purposes and land them a job with the front office/coaching staff after their playing career is over. Otherwise, they will have a job as long as they perform well.

Having had the honor of meeting Mr. Barkley. I can say that yes his is a gentlman in person and with fans but I concur athletes are not meant to be role models for anyone's children but their own. Mr. Tebow could learn from this.

"I, for one, don't like the term role model at all. The reason I say that is, for myself, I never considered myself a role model, period. What I did was, I was a man who played basketball as well as he could. And I was never, ever contemplating trying to qualify for sainthood. If there's such a thing as a role model, it has to come from the people the kids are in day-to-day contact with -- their family, their teachers, their counselors, their friends." -Bill Russell
