I think I've found the deeper meaning:
The gentleman on the left is a typical American. He's unhappy with what he's got. His mirror image (his conscience) tells him that he has the ability to improve his situation. In this case, all he has to do is "get more channels." Upon being presented with a simple solution, our protagonist decides that he doesn't want to make the change. He seems to enjoy playing the victim and blaming his condition on external factors.
