This is probably the only excisting Vito c-melody. They have been made in the 60's by Beaugnier for LeBlanc.
It is said, that 120 had been produced, but only 18-22 have been sold. I couldn'T find someelse who has one.

The tune is played with a old Martin Handcraft c-melody 1921/22 with a Steamer mouthpiece.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

  • Cool horn! I didn't know that C melodies were produced as recently as the 60s, let alone by Vito (even though it's really a stencil.) Nice videos and collection. I enjoy them as I love looking at vintage horns and hearing them is even better. Are your horns original lacquer?

  • Hi, thanks. Yeap, only a handfull was sold in the 60's and no, it is not relaquered. All my horns are original. I try to find horns that look great and sound even better, than they look :)

  • I have a Ramponi & Cazzani C melody soprano, called a Jedson. It is about 1" shorter than the Bb soprano and I use a soprano mouthpiece, cut down at the neck end to go on enough. So I can use Bb soprano reeds too. It sounds lovely, soft and sweet and resonant, but it needs a really good service. The nice thing is I found a Bb soprano Ramponi & Cazzani, also a Jedson, so I have a nice pair.

  • Nice sound.

  • Thanks for sharing. Its hard to get to hear what a C Melody sounds like. This one sounds like it has pretty good intonation, which I know has been the main problem with these horns, especially with the lack of correct mouthpieces.

There is a company in NZ that is selling C Melody horns, but they are made in China. I think they are the only outfit still making them.

  • Oh, I agree!

  • btw there arent a lot in the world but they dont have much value. i found one on ebay for $900. they dont play well

  • lol the c melody is sometimes called 'the tenor in C'

  • i found one on ebay sold by ce winds

  • Sounds like a "real" tenor!
