Chop Chop - Pantene Beautiful Lengths

I decided to cut my hair today and donate it to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths organization. I did some research on hair donations and decided this was the best organization to donate to. They create wigs and give them to women who have lost their hair to cancer. The wigs are free of charge for the women who need them. Beautiful lengths only requires that you cut 8 inches of your hair.

Since I have very curly hair, I thought it would be easier to deal with the cutting process if I straightened it out. In order to donate, you can have any texture hair and you need to wash and condition it and completely dry it before cutting. You need to measure 8 inches from just above the ponytail. I chose to cut a little bit longer because the ends of my hair were a little thin from weather damage.

I've put my ponytails in a sealed plastic bag and I'm sending them out today. I'm really happy with my decision to cut my hair. It will grow back and what's no longer attached to my head will make a sick woman very happy. It takes 6 ponytails to make one wig, so if you have 8 inches of hair to spare, this is a great reason to cut it.

One of my inspirations for cutting my hair was the recent loss of my Aunt Beverly. She was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer a little over a month ago and she died just 2 weeks after her diagnosis. This is a horrible form of Breast Cancer that often goes misdiagnosed, and can't be detected with normal mammograms. I urge everyone to get educated on all forms of cancer and get checked. The biggest help in the fight against cancer is early detection and awareness. I gave my hair up to support the cause :-)

Its great that your showing the world that they can do this. ! im doing it tomorrow my hair is to my knees and i am cutting it to my waste i should have a video up next week of it. Im donatiing it to Locks of love =)

Research Locks of Love a bit, I heard they sell their extra hair and wigs are sold to families base on their income

... Pantene is a big company and can afford to give wigs away for free regardless of the income of the recipient...

Pantene requires 8 inches, I cut 11 inches because the ends were kind of dry so they got 8 inches of healthy hair :-)

You were very brave to cut off your long hair. However I think you could have cut it off a little shorter.

My hair is naturally curly so it curled up under my ears after I washed it :-) It's long again, I may do another cut soon...

Thanks, but like I said below, it's not brave to cut your hair, it's the women who are fighting cancer who are the brave ones. My hair is extremely naturally curly, I only straightened it for the cut so it would be easier to handle. After I washed it, it curled up about 3 inches, so it was actually fairly short.

@EmLovescrazy There are warehouses full of hair. No woman need do this, if she really loves her long hair. If she is chopping it short anyway, might as well donate or sell it.
