  • @dpjunkhead If anyone says this isn't Layne they're idiots.

    It's definitely is him.

  • I like this better than the Dirt version in every way. Layne's voice is more raged and yet has more flow to it, and Jerry is on fire.

  • I've read in multiple places that Layne was also super fucked up while recording the final version of Rooster, so that might have something to do with the vocals sounding different. Makes really no difference in how amazing he sounds though, which is amazing itself.

  • I can't decide which version I like betetr. The one on Dirt is so raw and so much emotion but this one has more rhythm and melodi in it. I kind of like this one better right now but it changes from day to day almost.

  • @HIM666waytolove: I don't think so... I think the music style changed. Facelift was more conventional heavy metal, Sap was obviously more mellow and acoustic, and Dirt was, at the time, the heaviest that they had been. This version is still in the Facelift style and vibe. The only album in which Layne's voice sounds taxed is Jar of Flies IMO... not to say it isn't amazing... but like any good vocalist his style evolved with the band. Hence the difference in vocals here.

  • It's Layne. His vocal style kinda changed after Sap. Probably because of heroin. Idk.

  • In the liner notes of 1999's Music Bank box set collection, guitarist Jerry Cantrell said of the song: "I think there's some vibe on the demo that maybe we didn't get here (on Dirt), but this has something all of its own... quality, for one thing."the released one did not. "

  • Wow, This does indeed have something that the released one did not. I love it!
