Rent defaulters evicted by force

Makongeni estate was turned into a battlefield when anti-riot police clashed with residents who were blocking their eviction. Police were deployed to evict tenants who according to the Kenya railways staff pension scheme, have defaulted on rent payment for the past 10 months.

whats fucked up is even in america you can pay off your house after 30 years but soon as you miss a property tax payment your gone. you never really own anything, in the end the govt owns it all.

250 shillings is like? 500 USD? that's insane for an African person to pay. I would just go out into the jungle and build a hut out of whatever trees I could cut down, build a palm thatched roof, set traps for whatever I could kill to eat and live off the land. I know easier said than done but that place is a slum. They don't even have running water it looks like and no paved roads.

Renters don't own their homes. If they don't like rent increases, move. Or buy your own place so you don't have to live at the whims of a landlord.

Screw their 'entitlement'. They have no right to hold the apartment building by force.

If the landlord increased their rent to a ridiculous amount to encourage them to leave, that's his right. Maybe he wants to demolish the place and build something else.
