During the morning of D-Day 6th June 1944, Thirteen men of Easy Company rallied in the village of of Le Grand Chemin, Normandy, commanded by 1st Lt. Richard Winters
He was ordered to "Take care of some fire along a hedgerow nearby". This turned out to be Brécourt gun battery consisting of four Howitzer guns which were raining down fire onto Utah beach about six miles away.
The gun battery was located a few hundred meters away from the German garrison at Brécourt Manor.
Brécourt was reinforced D-Day morning by a 50-man platoon of German paratroopers and protect by three MG42 machine gun emplacements.
At around 08.15 hrs Easy Company led by Lt. Richard Winters started to close in on Brécourt, at about 08.30 the action started and the rest is history.
