The Price is Right - A Push in Hit Me

For the first time in the since-retired game Hit Me on the Price is Right, the contestant and the House push (which in blackjack lingo, means ending in a tie of 17, 18, 19, 20, or 21), and Bob initially has no idea what to do in that situation. He settles it by declaring the contestant a winner.

Bob and Roger liked to call things like this "historic moments" even when they've happened before. Although a push with an ace involved may not have happened before.

Keep in mind in this video, at the time this clip occurred, Barker says that they've never been in that situation up to that point. Thus that means that this was the first time ever that such an event occurred. I guess that after that, the rules, which I gather didn't mention what would happen in the event of a push, were then modified to automatically award the contestant the prize on a push. Meaning the contestant had to win or push, and the House had to push or bust.

That's only because 21 (the blackjack way (10/face card & ace)) gives the contestant an automatic win, no matter what the house has.

Why give the ties to the contestant rather than find another way to break the tie?

In addition to confusing rules, this was Hit Me's achilles' heel. Whenever a house had a soft hand, there was no provision in the rules to hit until it had a hard 17+, but Bob called a win or a loss as he saw fit whenever it did occur.
