Maligno was born in Monterrey Mexico in 2005 by 5 musicians with a long standing career in Mexican and international scenes, with the solely desire to take back the very roots of heavy music. They recorded their first self-titled album "MALIGNO" (2006, Iguana & Asenath records) which gives them recognition in Mexico and receiving general praise with national and international press because of their outstanding work. Soon after Maligno takes part in MexicoÕs most important metal festivals alongside bands such as: UDO, BLIND GUARDIAN, CATHEDRAL, MAGO DE OZ, DEICIDE, and OBITUARY, which led to be selected to support the Mexican leg of hard rock legends GUNS N ROSES, getting outstanding reviews for their live shows as well. In 2008 the band releases its second album " UNIVERSEVIL" (Iguana & Asenath records) recorded and mixed by the band again and mastered by Alan Douches (MASTODON, HIGH ON FIRE, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN) which was selected on the 2008 top 10 albums by a Latin artist list by Rolling Stone magazine Latin America and on several best albums of that same year alongside mainstream artists. Also won the best independent metal album by the Indie-O Music awards (which recognizes the best in independent music in Mexico) and invited to perform live in the awards ceremony as well been invited to play at the 2009 Vive Latino festival in Mexico city which is the most important music festival in Latin America and sharing the stage in different festivals with bands as : Testament, Voivod, Children of Bodom, Atheist, Samael, Whiplash, Death Angel, Fear Factory, Amorphis, Uli John Roth, etc. Recently the band has been invited to support Metallica on their Mexican leg of the Death Magnetic 2010 tour along with Mastodon. Maligno is stronger than ever, planning tours in Mexico, the US and Europe as well to keep promoting the album that put Maligno as one of the most renowned bands in Latin America...UNIVERSEVIL.
MALIGNO will release their third album "The Funeral Domine" in May. The CD was recorded by Maligno at La Nave studios in Monterrey, Mexico and was mixed at 7hertz Studios in Los Angeles, California with American producer/engineer Billy Anderson. The effort was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music in New Windsor, New York.
