Marissa Mayer is Google's vice president of search products and user experience and also serves as co-chair on The Knight Commission on the Information Needs of Communities in a Democracy. PBS Engage and the Commission teamed up to gather public input about the current and future state of local news and information. I think the death of serious news organizations, will be the death of a free society. It is only the persistent prodding for information and serious in-depth investigations by the fourth estate, that keeps governments honest and from becoming totalitarian in nature. Laws passed in the dark of night, behind the backs of the people, is what transforms a free society into a dictatorship.
