Richard Beckinsale - Bloomers (1979) His last TV series

Here is Richard Beckinsale in an excerpt from what would be his last television series. Bloomers was supposed to be a six-part series for BBC2, but sadly Richard died the night before he was due for rehearsals for the sixth and final episode of the series. The remaining five episodes were shown by BBC2 as a tribute in October 1979. Here's a rare opportunity to see one of Richard Beckinsale's final performances. this clip is taken from episode three called 'The Contract'

You could tell he was a good bloke,...there was just nothing not to like about the man.

Richard was such an endearing actor. You couldn't not like him. Handsome, sweet, and funny, he died appalingly too young. He accomplished a lot though, and his work will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Remember coming home from school and hearing he'd died, didn't make sense. Though he seemed to have been around for years despite only being 31, together with Robert Lindsay seemed to be on an ever upward trajectory as the future of British comedy.

THIS GUY SHOULD STILL BE ALIVE TODAY, HE HAD LOTS OF WARNING SIGNS OVER THE COMING WEEKS OF HS DEATH, HE KNEW THINGS WERE NOT RIGHT & SO DID THE DOCTOR & CO WORKERS, THE DOC SAID RICHARD HAD HIGH CHOLESTEROL LEVELS.

Top bloke Richard seemed a very nice genuine person. He didn't look too well in this clip and it was around this time he was suffering dizzy spells and blackouts with an increasing pale complexion. It was tragic that he died within weeks of this being filmed. He was destined for other great work, Ronnie Baker and Leonard Rossiter were so fond of him. We all were.

I was just about to say the same thing. There is something strangely reassuring about seeing the bearded actor who was, as you say, in Going Straight.

It's the hotel owner out of going straight :) They use all the same actors in those days
