9017 at Steel Steam & Stars

Without any doubt the highlight of 2009's "Steam Steel & Stars" gala at the Llangollen Railway was the return on a Dukedog, in BR Black, to authentic territory for the first time since the late 1950s. 9017 is normally based at the Bluebell Railway, and is normally GWR green, so this was very special moment for many people who never thought they would see this happen! Not only did 9017 look great in its new paint and correct setting but it also put in some superb performances on the railway's challanging gradients and making plenty of noise in the process! I for one will be sad when she returns to the more flat Bluebell line and hope that we don't have to wait another 50 years before this happens again!

9017 did indeed look and sound great, didn't she? I was there yesterday as well, and will be going again tomorrow, perhaps for another ride behind this little beauty...
