Something I'd intended to mention, but it slipped my mind:
It was during the Reagan administration that homelessness in the United States became visable.
Earlier, the homeless were so few in number that the average person never saw any. Under
Reagan, the homeless became ubiquitous--a normal part of the landscape, and so it has remained.
